He may have thought the ordinary Alaskan brown bear was a "party animal", but odds are he would've been in for a surprise had he made it to Kodiak. Those bears are like grizzlies on steroids and growth hormones. Anyone who doesn't take a male Kodiak (up to 1500 pounds) seriously is not behaving rationally.
