They key should be the development of a space faring infastructure that could accomplish almost anything.

Maybe we boost the ISS our of low earth orbit and use it as a spaceship to get to Mars...And/or anywhere else we want to go.

I knoww, I know... But then we would need a new ISS for the shuttle to fly to...

There's always a catch...
