Tigers typically kill their prey by a crushing bite to the nape of the neck, severing the spinal cord; this is particularly true when the prey is smaller than they are. For larger prey, they may clamp their jaws around it's throat, suffocating it; opening the jugular (or better carotid) isn't a favoured technique. Next time you're in a decent museum of natural history, take a look at a tiger's skull, then look at a human skeleton. We Homo sapiens are a pretty weak and fragile species - if a 600 lb tiger wanted to kill one of us, it would be done in a second beyond even the reach of modern medicine.

There have been points made that S&R have "saved the white tigers from extinction", but as you point out, they are mutants, descended fro one idividual and inbred. Maybe they help raise awareness and sympathy for tigers in gerneral, but mostly they raise money for the Mirage. They are beautiful, though.
