Politics aside, I worked in France a bit and I felt very welcome... Actually I kinda felt like I was especially liked... people wanted to talk english, or help me if I got lost... I got lost at night in Paris- many people tried to help- going so far as to have the security guard in a closed bank let me in to use the phone...
I can only remember one couple that acted disgusted with the uncouth american in a pizza parlor, and their attitude changed when ther toddler tipped over his high chair and I caught it...
OK there was on other incident, but it was a classic.... I couldnt find the train station, so I stopped an elderly woman and in my best French said:
"Excuse me but I dont speak French very well"
she looked at me seriously and said:
"Yes, that is true"
and kept on walking....
To be honest how many of us could pass up a line like that.... ?
