Neither of you are actually reading any original news releases and memos, are you? Don recycles whatever the New York Times tells him. I don't know what Greg's excuse is.
Bush was informing the public, i.e. people other than the usual reporters, about things going on in Iraq that have been carefully spiked by the mainstream media. This positive news has been coming out through other information channels (including soldiers, visiting officials and congressmen, and many others) for a lot longer than two weeks. I've posted a lot of links to it, and no doubt they were studiously ignored.
Nobody, especially Bush, is saying everything is "dandy." Only an idiot would say everything is "dandy." But only a liar would say that we are not making any progress at all.
Rumsfeld writes a memo to tell the Pentagon to stay on their toes and that we aren't out of the woods yet, something that would be obvious to anyone, and it's twisted into a harbinger of disaster.
And if Saddam and Osama were captured or killed tomorrow, it wouldn't make the slightest dent in you, so why pretend like it's an issue? I remember the crap Bush got when the coalition nailed Saddam's sons.
