Sean O'Keefe is out for himself. Space is merely secondary. Check out this quote:
AIAA interview of NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe, October 2002:
AIAA: "Your predecessor served a record 10 years in this job. Do you aspire to such longevity?"
Sean O'Keefe: "Absolutely not! Please take me out of my misery long before then! I have a working understanding with my wife: When we are about six months from going broke, please let me know-that's when I'll quit. The timing will be when I have three kids that will be entering college, that's going to be the pacing item. Or I'll have to get a paper route to supplement!"
----------------------
At least before the Columbia mishap, he reportedly aspired to head the Pentagon. Boeing & Lockheed (OSP beneficiaries) could have helped make that possible. Ultimately O'Keefe could have had some lucrative perch waiting for him like the one Dan Goldin nearly had at Boston University courtesy of B.U. board member Gerald Cassidy, an aerospace lobbyist.
O'Keefe's behavior r/e OSP shows why we should get excited about what will happen one year from yesterday: presidential elections. As if Halliburton wasn't bad enough of an insult to our intelligence.
