He's my hero too, and it doesn't look like he's that optimistic about his own ideas. No timeframe on fusion power, for instance.
What might trigger a fusion power initiative is a serious shortage of energy expected in the near future. But if mankind instead decides to save energy rather than keep on consuming more and more or if something else more practical is easier to obtain, then, yes, He3 remains a dream.
The human mind is very resourceful and someone might come with a brilliant idea.
