re: Metawatts and Harrison Schmitt

"So what are the problems of H3 fusian extactly? Some useful web references would be appreciated."

You have fusion and fussion. Fussion reactors currently produce electrical power used by the you and me. Fusion reactors don't exist- experimential fusion reactors don't produce usable energy- they mostly consume energy. Researchers get excited when they can make these billion dollar wonders, generate a net power measured in fractions of watt seconds. Fusion reactors are currently just a hope that they can be developed into a useful reactor- the US govt has spend tens of billions trying to make this hope a reality & so far they have failed in this attempt. [I must add that just because govts have failed, it doesn't mean it's not possible.] Now, I don't know much about it, but generally speaking the problem is containing and sustaining the fusion reaction- they use powerful lasers and magnetic containment in vaccum conditions and there few variations in how they do this. Using He-3 fusion reactor in theory would result in a cleaner fusion reaction [less neutrons emitted], but as far as I know it is technically harder to use He-3 than compared to using isotopes of hydrogen.

For general references try search engines like Yahoo and keywords like fusion + research:

from another search at Google using fusion + He3
