Space/Science » in reply to ESA's latest Mars mission costs $353 million. NASA's: over $800 million.

Wait until after Mars Express is on orbit....

The time for celebrating Mars Express and Beagle-2 is when they are on orbit or on the Martian surface. Historically Mars has always punished attempts to explore that world on the cheap. The Soviet Mars program was one failure followed by another. American attempts to explore Mars on-the-cheap also ended in failure, e.g. Mars Polar Lander, Mars Climate Observer, DS-2, etc.

It is important that ESA be successful. Good luck to them!
