re: Never forget kudzu

Again, zebra fish do not survive in American waters. My daughter has some, in a heated tank (not DayGlo.)

The point is not that the fish might be dangerous, or even that it's that important that we have access to DayGlo fish, but that the person who shut it down did it for arbitrary reasons. If someone attacks a genetic engineering program because it is just "wrong," how is a scientist or anyone else going to rationally deal with the objections?

I would bet that most objections to genetically engineered organisms fall into this "it's just wrong" category.

And don't tell me about non-native species. My yard is full of brown snails from some bloody Frenchman in the 1800s who thought they would be good to eat.
