Don't get me wrong Tom, I share your annoyance with PETA. It's just that I've noticed some positive changes don't take place without extremism.
Before (and during) the civil rights movement, the thought of Black/White co-existence- let alone equality -was considered extreme.
Remember women's lib? I think women think they’re better off now. The system we had before it looks more attractive to me -single income families, children that had mothers to come home to etc. etc. But if women are happier now then women's lib was a good thing.
Today some people detest things like gay pride parades and that "Queer eye" show. They say "why can't those people just stay in the closet." If they did, they never would gain the acceptance they are fighting for. Someday in the distant future, maybe people just won't care about race, gender and sexual orientation.
As far as animals go, my nephew has worked at a dairy farm all his adult life. Some of the stories about what happens to the cows would curdle your late´. I've personally seen cattle de-horn, castrated and branded in one swoop. I gave up hamburgers for a week.
Maybe PETA can bring about some better treatment of our critter friends.
