At that time, Harrison Schmitt was a candidate for NASA Administrator. Dr. Zubrin was not. I'm not surprised that the government contracting clique of sycophants and Ivory Tower clingers flocked Harrison Schmitt at that time, while not exactly doing the same with the guy who is famous for slashing NASA's price estimates by a factor of 10 or so. The latter's viewed with scorn, in fact, by many tax-leeches. That's indicative of demonstrated intellectual leadership ability, even if some of his allegedly overly aggressive calculations may leave something to be desired.
