I'm with you. Express is a marvelous mission.
It has been difficult to sift through the mars coverage to find any details on the orbiter status. Coverage of it has been an afterthought.
As far as Beagle is concerned, it cost so little money that people really should not be too upset over its failure. Should not, but certainly will. The public loves a good witchhunt. And it won't be fun till someone's head is rolling in the street.
