First, I'm sorry for the redundant post on this topic but I couldn't get the reply function to work on the earlier thread. Anyway, about this space poll. How could anyone know what to make of such contradictory answers that follow no logical pattern. The poll found that 72 percent support continuing human space flight but would prefer using robots to explore the Moon and Mars? If that's the case, what do they want the human space program to do, just go around in circles in low earth orbit for the next hundred years? That's not to mention that 48 percent in one part of the poll favor the current plan being rumored in the press. All in all it's a reasonably encouraging poll considering that it comes in the total absence of any political leadership on the topic up until now or no major promotional or educational campaign to sell the idea. I think some of the respondents may have an exaggerated idea of the costs, so maybe the support will be stronger when the President gives us the details.
