Yeah, right. Everbody picks on poor Tommy.
News Headline: Left won't protest Afghanistan like it did Iraq. Obvious proof of liberal duplicity. Therefore libs are evil hypocrites, so Cons must be saints. QED.
You gambit with a deliberately provocative and insulting line, delivered in a snarky tone, (which doesn't even hold up to scrutiny, since both cons and libs have opposed or supported both wars) and when it provokes the predictably outraged response, you give us the "poor, abused TB, no one lets him speak his piece, boo, hoo."
You know perfectly well why there is no organized anti-Afghanistan war movement. Libs and cons could both agree that war had to be fought.
But it quickly became clear Iraq was a grab for oil and military bases pulled off by the Cheny gang using WMDs as an excuse. It was brutal and cynical aggression, the same sort of thing the Soviets used to do. It had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al-Quaeda.
At first there was no opposition, because we believed the WMD story. You will recall libs didn't oppose Afghanistan either. Don't you recall how you had to fall back on one flimsy excuse after another as the truth became obvious: there used to be WMDs, alleged Al-Quaeda connections, Saddam is a nasty person, Islamofascism, the evil French want oil contracts, we are bringing democracy to Iraq, we are bringing democracy to the middle east. You parroted every pathetic lie the administration came up with. The only one you never brought up was "Iraq will pay (with oil) for its own invasion and occupation", as Cheney once blurted out in a brief moment of unexpected candor.
I might be able to accept the invasion of Iraq was an honest mistake on our part, a misinterpretation of vague intelligence brought on by stress due to legitimate national peril. Hell, the excuse for war seemed reasonable to me at the time. Every body believed it. Even Colin Powell believed it.
But as the truth unfolded, the conservative lie machine went into gear, making up one lame excuse after another in order to cover up its own incompetence and duplicity. And you stuck your head up to cover for them and make excuses for them every step of the way. It was instructive, all right. You displayed the same moral qualities as your Neocon pals in the White House.
I suppose next you're going to plead a First Amendment case, "Nasty Zone liberals won't allow my Free Speech. Boo hoo."
