...stuffing it in their faces isn't going to help us in restoring security to the country and being successful at establishing a democracy there. The fundamental flaw in all of this is that we toppled Saddam without being asked. We didn't do it for them, we did it for ourselves.

The Shiites may be ecstatic Saddam is gone, but they're not happy it was us that did it, and they're not happy we are still in their country calling the shots. In short, they didn't ask for our help. Nor do they believe our motives had their interests in mind. Expecting them to unequivocally grateful under such circumstances is incredibly naive.
