"I'm really disappointed at how sorry this plan is, but at least we are looking beyond LEO and in the right direction."
I predicted the default direction was that after Shuttle and ISS, NASA would evenually focus on returning to the Moon. And I think that the better course is to start the Lunar program (and end it) before the ending of Shuttle and ISS programs. I would say that Bush's plan is better than the default- the plan of ending the Shuttle and ISS by a certain date, should save billions of otherwise wasted money and in general speed up the process of evenually getting beyond earth.
From political angle, I think Bush's plan is excellent. He is making major changes and putting NASA is the right direction, but at the same time he isn't asking for large sums of money. His opponents are taking the typical tack of saying "it will costs trillions and we have all those babies to feed". Gore has already make of idiot of himself (once again). And the Dems who want Bush's job, haven't manage to say anything intelligent on the subject. And the politics as far as the NASA agency is concerned is also good- I think it's safe to say most NASA employees are in favor of this plan. What remains as far as Space goes is to get the private sector on board; we might get more indication of this in the State of the Union address.
