I live in New Hampshire and so have been able to attend candidates' events in person.
Kerry was asked about Bush's space initiative tonight, and his response was very negative. He gave some perfunctory words about supporting science, said we should focus on finishing ISS and continuing with robotic probes, and then scoffed at the idea of sending people to the Moon or Mars anytime soon given all the needs we have for the money down here on Earth. This was a private conversation with an attendee after the formal Q&A was over so I couldn't catch everything that was said, but that was the gist of it.
I'll be seeing Edwards tomorrow. I mostly have some foreign policy questions for him but if space comes up I'll pass on his answer.
Clark has actually sounded the most pro-space of the bunch. Especially when he said that he just can't accept that the speed of light is really the limit and that we're just stuck here in our own solar system; he's sure there's some way around it. I do NOT think we should appoint him Physicist-in-Chief but I like that attitude.
