High-end audio formats fail to impress consumers

I think most people are either sticking with their old CDs, or switching to mp3 players with solid state (Compact Flash) memory. I recently saw a 2.2 gigabyte Compact Flash card for $200 bucks. They don't have moving parts, so they might actually last quite a while, and they don't require power to maintain. A DVD-audio or DVD-video can only store 4.5 gigabytes, so the simple progression with solid state is such that they will probably overtake conventional DVD within a year or two.

If DVD manufacturers can step up production of blue laser DVDs, with 20-30 gigabyte storage per disk, they might hold out on solid state for another few years. But it's only a matter of time. And besides, w.r.t. impoverished sales of DVD-audio disks, I think consumers have already chosen (my 2 cents).
