Has anyone done modeling to show...

...that large volumes of ash can come all the way from Tharsis, on mars? I'm a little skeptical, even if intuitive physics is in favor.

Plus, they seem to be looking (I'm jumping the gun on some things that will be nailed down and clarified soon) at a whole mess of strata. That means big deposits of ash on repeated occasions. To get from Tharsis to Meridiani either:

- the wind has to be blowing strongly and in just the right direction - every time a layer is put down, or

- can they be talking about massive outputs of ash that radiate in all directions??? What would the volume of ash output have to be? Is it feasible? Wouldn't that make all regions around Tharsis (to an impressive radius) look pretty similar?
