re: Monday Morning Musing on Mars Marbles

How about this;

Could the little spheres have been formed in a same manner as the impact created glass beads of the Moon? Lets say they were created from very ancient impacts on Mars. Then they were cemented together(Water perhaps?) in a sedimentary rock. This would explain why they are harder then the rock they are embedded in.

If this was the case, I wouldn’t expect to see such impact created beads being in such high concentration. Either they would be very common on Mars, our these were grouped together, like being washed to the bottom of a lake or sea.

Like the rest of you, I can only wait and see what other data comes in, but this former Geology teacher is fascinated and stumped as to what I am seeing.

Mars is indeed a planet with it’s own personality. I feel the science of Geology is about to expand.
