A prominent physicistwarns in a new book that the world is running out of oil and we’re not doing anything to stave off the coming crisis.
I thought the interesting part is that the crisis will come shortly after the peak of production is reached. Hadn't thought of it that way. And it's true - that's when shortages will develop.
(In '73 many of us were limited to 5 gallons at any one purchase. The father of a friend of mine commented that the US was 5 gallons away from savagery. He was right - without those 5 gallons there would have been riots.)
This physicist points out that discovery peaked quite a while ago, and while new reserves are being discovered, that isn't happening as fast as it was.
(I know, I know, it's been predicted forever, hasn't happened yet, therefore it won't happen. Ever.)
