Color anaglyphs (what's wrong with this picture?)

I was playing with making anaglyphs by hand, and decided to tackle a color anaglyph. According to what I could google, the standard recipe is to use a left-eye image for red, and use right-eye images for blue and green.

The technically knowledgable reader will have noticed the problem right away: The rover cameras have the blue, green, and violet filters on the left eye.

Here's what you get:

Seems to me that the relief is inverted; the ridge looks like a gigantic wave about to break over me.

What's up with that? It's hard to believe that the engineers made such a monumental and fundamental mistake. I have to be misunderstanding something.

Right?

Can anybody explain this to me?
