Perhaps convert them from solar powered to RTGs. That would extend their life so they could go further, and be landed on the North and South poles. The RTGs generate enough heat to keep things from getting so cold. That too would extend the life. Of course I understand RTGs are pretty expensive, and heavier than solar, so all that drives up the cost. sigh....
