Do the RTGs provide charge current for recharging batteries or are RTGs the sole source of vehicle electrical power?

I'm guessing the difference would be having a larger RTG for 24.whatsis X 7 vehicle operation -vs- a smaller RTG for battery recharging during scheduled (night) vehicle "sleep" cycles?
