Space/Science » in reply to re: More spherule cross sections-banding

Hmmm....

Recall that these spherical objects split on their own into halves and quarters. The pieces are found littered all over the surface, as well as full spheres. The claim is also made that these objects are found in oblong and other shapes. We've seen some that are "pregnant" and some that are shattered. A few show banding or rims, some show interesting small pits or protuberances.

This image shows spheres cut in half -- exactly how is not explained -- and close inspection shows that some are further divided in half.

Could there be a crystalline structure that explains this? In other words, could these beads actually be crystals of some sort, but formed in a very unusual environment? Are the voids sites of more linear crystals that dissolved or eroded away?

And I'm still puzzled by the apparent absence of layering in the matrix material in close up views, though these layers are obvious in more distant views. In many images, the matrix material appears to be eaten away by something -- perhaps a chemical reaction with the darker overburden? Or could the overburden store heat, and could the stored heat affect the lighter material?

Mysteries...
