The question is are enough Americans ready to put aside reactionary postures about immigration
The lesson democrats taught Pete Wilson and the Republicans in CA is not lost on present day Republicans. So far, immigration is like weather: easy to talk about and very little to actually do.
When I read stuff about Bush woosing out on immigration, especially stuff written by liberals, I have one quesiton: Are you willing to do something that actually involves enforcing laws, limiting access to public $ and repatriaing illegals?
If not, then it is just more cheap posturing, a specialty for liberals but a problem for us all. The immigration debacle has been 40 years in the making and it is about as much as Bush's problem as Vietnam was 'Nixon's war'.
