An interesting thing is that all the money the republicans can spend on their campaign can backfire if the campaigners don't understand the mood of the population.
I remember a cigarette add with a boy and a girl riding a motorbike and the girl asking the boy: "guess what I want!" (suggesting a cigarette but without really giving the answer); so in a few days, all the billboards throughout the country were covered with answers quickly painted on the billboards such as "a nice cancer", "a stinking breath", "a very long illness", "a chronic bronchitis" and that counter publicity made much more noise than the original one.
