Why?
The Alaskan oil is a miniscule source considering the US's use of oil.
Why not save that for petrochemicals, the medicines, fertilizers, plastics and so on which we need, and
face the reality that oil is a finite material and make the difficult but necessary plans to reduce the consumption of it?
Or do oil companies so control the political environment that it's not possible to rein them in?
Alaska is fine, but it seems like spending money which is earning fantastic interest and will be needed later.
Besides, later, when it's worth more, it should be possible to do more to protect the environment.
