Does this look like lines of pits in the surface to you? It does to me but if I rotate the image around by 180 deg the surface looks more consistent with the Pancam images- lines of crystals that project outward.
There have been several MI images posted that appear upside down to me, e.g. this and this both look better when I flip them around.
