It's a crying shame that the mission failed. I don't think Pillinger should be raked over more coals than Goldin, or whoever, though.
I like B2 mission (not counting EDL phase) and I'd love to see 6 or 8 of an improved version (robustly tested) thrown at Mars.
I would not like to see Pillinger as the project head, though. And I doubt that he will ever be able to sell the idea, with him in charge. He should shop for someone with planetary "street creds" to take up the battle, and keep himself to the background.
