But the Democratic Party has a single thought on its mind: defeating Bush in November. To them, this entire committee has a single purpose: to give them a political weapon to defeat Bush in November. They don't give a rat's ass about Iraq, the economy, employment, or any other issue except that it serves this purpose. Listen to Kennedy, and the others, during hearings like this. They don't really want the truth, or apologies, or principles, or morals, or enlightened politicians. They want Bush destroyed, and the second Bush gives them the slightest opening they're going to go for it like crocodiles for a dead cow.

Handing these people anything...ANYTHING...is like giving a sharpened axe to Lizzie Borden. That may not be pretty, it may not be high chivalry and broadminded thought, but that's politics.

They know their candidate is a zero this time around, selected in an orgy of Bush hatred through an artificially compressed primary process. The third choice or worse going into the primary season. The only way they can win is by bringing Bush down by any means necessary. Good God, you think this is the first election I've been through?
