my rule of thumb for linux: don't run with the big dogs

Big dogs are big targets, thus they are scared dogs. Its just another distro that is so big that it releases a broken product (don't try to play any files outside of mpeg on it) because they are too afraid of lawsuits.

I've got SUSE 9.1 on my VAIO right now, and its not that good. Video conferencing, universal instantmessaging, its nothing that SUSE owns and its nothing a different distro would not have.

Go with a small unpopular distro, then if you need any software like GAIM (universal instant messaging) or vide conferenceing, and its not already on there, just install it your self, rather than trying to install it over the already broken version that came with SUSE.

I suggest Gentoo.
