Off Topic » in reply to First new COMMERCIAL nuclear power plant in decades...

Most of the engineers I know work at nuke plants.

The concensus among them, even those who cut their teeth in the nuclear navy, is that the differences, structurally, between a sub nuke, or any nuke portable enough to put on an ocean-going vessel, and a plant designed to stay in one place and provide power for hundreds of thousands of businesses and homes are so vast as to render the comparison meaningless.

The only things to be learned from the mobile reactors, so they tell me, are the basics of reactivity and energy conversion, and some of the unique safety challenges faced when using radioactive material as a source of heat.
