Clarke

Clarke in fact has little to say about it. I think it's just a couple paragraphs. He says something like - we could never disprove a meeting between Nichols and Yousef in Cebu City.

But for years, the gov't told us it was only McViegh and Nichols. And now a man who was at the center of our counter-terror efforts for years allows this might not be so. For him to even mention it at all is astounding.

There are several sources I could point you toward, but I think the most careful is Intel Wire. As Berger says, there is no hard evidence. But there is a suprisingly strong circumstantial case for foriegn involvement.

I have been canvassing all kinds of sources - reading them in their entirety no matter how outragous their claims. There is a lot of crap out there. But sometimes you'll find a small detail. Often what happens is people see some things that don't fit, note those items, but then draw the wrong conclusions.

I fully aware that these ideas are out on the fringe. But I don't believe in pig farm concentration camps. I don't believe McViegh was innocent. I don't believe in a massive gov't conspiracy - only a few people would know the whole story. And those who know parts of the story have incentive to keep quiet. Allow me to explain my thinking here a little.

In early 2002, Chuck Spinney asked, "Is 4th Generation Warfare Al Qaeda's Offical Combat Doctrine?" One of the features of 4GW is the use of Cheng-Chi or "dazzle and stroke." Or, as General Patton put it - "Hold 'em by the nose, and kick 'em in the ass."

In a terrorist scenario, the best way to hold em by the nose is misinformation. And the best way to convey the misinformation is through a double agent. There are reports (admittedly, on some fringe websites) that McVeigh meet with ATF agents. There are reports of trucks with "bomb squad" parked near to the Murrah building on that morning.

I think McViegh was giving the feds information about the ANFO bomb inside the yellow Ryder truck. The feds were focused on the truck to the exclusion of everything else. Fertilizer and fuel oil aren't high explosive. There are serious doubts about whether the ANFO bomb could have possibly knocked down steel-reinforced concrete columns. While the feds focused on the dangerous but not that dangerous truck, the significant damage was done by others, with other bombs. McVeigh held the feds nose, and the others kicked us in the ass.

The law-enforecement types wouldn't be anxious to publicize the fact that they got burned. This, combined with some other factors, means that a lot of peole in government would have incentive to keep silent. Everyone had an interest in it just going away. Except it didn't go away.

OK, so I mentioned it again. I'll reply to future posts on the topic, but I won't bring it up.
