Thanks Nick and Tony

Symantec (Norton) and I have a contentious relationship. They have screwed up my computer more times than I care to remember, the last time when my sister gave me their anti-virus thing for my birthday. Trying to uninstall it took out my drive.

But McAfee is a good idea. I actually have that program, but it slowed everything down so much it seemed like a waste.

I tried to follow some procedure to uninstall WinSrv32.exe, couldn't find all the files that were supposed to be associated with it, and just deleted it. Seems to have done OK.

Spybot didn't find it, though I try to run it about once a day.

Back to McAfee, I guess.

I still don't know what WinSrv32.exe was doing. Task Manager reported it using the CPU a lot, but there was no traffic in or out of the DSL most of the time.

Oh, well. Where there's a will there's a way, and there seems to be a lot of wills conspiring against computers.

Thanks again.
