Everyone knew the Iraq effort was going to be a long haul. They're still blowing each other up in Bosnia, and we still have bases in Germany. Nobody in the administration thought we were going to wash our hands of Iraq in less than several years.
And yes, our troops were greeted with celebrations. I posted the evidence here when it happened, while our media thoroughly spiked it. There are 25 million people in Iraq, and the vast majority do not want the insurgents to win. Of course, as with many other things, if you say it often enough, it becomes "true."
How about paying some attention to what our troops have been saying all along, and not so much what the Democratic media and your own inverted worldview present?
There are those in the American media who want this war to turn out exactly like Vietnam, with the retreat, the humiliation, and the triumphant "I told you so" of those who believe America is the worst influence on this planet.
Vietnam was the last great victory of the Left in this country, and while many leftists of that time long ago outgrew it, there are still plenty remaining who want to see Uncle Sam get another one in the chops, and many of them are now in positions of influence in education, politics, and the media.
