Nobody said we will be still trying to secure the country 10 years from now. We may have troops there for years but so do we have troops in Germany.
It's not VN it is Iraq. There is no Ho Chi Mien trail, no inexhaustable source of enemy man power, no aid from a major power. There are a hundred differences and few similarities. We need more troops and we need to get the job done but it is doable. It will not take 10-20 years to do it
Why don't you just take a position that we should get our people out and stop with the more troops stuff. If you believe it is VN all over, more troops won't help. We sent plenty to VN but it didn't help. Why would you favor more in Iraq if your concern is for the lives of ours troops? If we send more troops you will say we are brutalizing the Iraqi people. If we pacify the country you will say we did it with inhuman tactics.
GWB or his successor will clean it up and regardless of the outcome you will not be happy. The only outcome that will make you happy is for us to cut and run. Then you can be satisfied that it was in fact another VN and when they nuke one of our cities you can blame it on the enemies we made by invading Iraq.
