There seems to be a bit of a dispute between UCLA and Caltech. When this story broke, about 2 weeks ago, the media first reported the UCLA prediction, then talked to the Caltech people we are all familiar with when there's a quake, and they kind of poo pooed the idea, saying you really can't predict earthquakes. I tend to side with Caltech people. There just seems to be too many variables to make any reliable predictions. Not like weather where you can see it coming days in advance.
