In fact, there was a dwarf named "Lucky." He found the fabulous Diamond As Big As A Hailstone As Big As A Grapefruit, gave up mining and living in a little cabin in the woods, and retired to a villa in the south of France. When women drop in on his place, it sure as hell isn't to cook and clean with the help of little forest animals.*
There is also a dwarf named "Gassy" who doesn't get to live in the little cabin in the woods either.
But I digress.
I don't actually read out loud, but under my breath. The important thing is to hear the words go by in my head. I don't read phonetically when I'm reading normally.
This catches grammar errors, but obviously doesn't do much for spelling. Face it, to spell words right you have to know how to spell them, or at least know when one is doubtful enough to have to look it up. I have a flying spellchecker/thesaurus (Ifinger) that's useful, but unfortunately unlike Word's spellchecker, it won't make guesses for me.
Google will offer alternative spellings to you if you misspell something. Very useful.
