Question: Could some of the craters at Meridiani be sinkholes?

How could we differentiate a crater with a flat rim and where the ejecta has been eroded away, from a sinkhole after millons of years have passed and a lot of sand has been blown into the hole? The sinkholes I have personally seen have steep vertical walls and kind of flat rims. Are these features an invariant characteristics in all sinkholes?
