My guess is
they are down to a skeleton crew on weekends for the extended mission. They do have to keep costs down to keep things on budget. I agree however they are really blowing the PR part of this mission here. It's one thing to lag on updates when the Rovers have nothing new of major interest to show, but another all together when they reach a destination people have been waiting to see for some time.
