You apparently wouldn't know real torture unless it was under your nose.
As I pointed out here a few minutes ago. It's a hard fact that the specific ordeal most of these prisoners went through, depicted in those photos, is in fact not much worse than an overdone frat hazing. This is the point of the joke.
If you want to concentrate on those who died in prison, or issues of physical abuse or beatings, that would be another story.
