It depends upon the situation, and upon the morality of the person(s) in charge. It's a matter of training, a matter of information assimilation, a matter of briefings, a matter of personal demeanor, and -- most importantly -- a matter of what an old 1st Sgt of mine liked to call home-training. If a person is raised to be a jerk, guess what. No amount of military training, information assimilation, or briefings is going to change the way that person thinks -- though visible reactions may change.

It really boils down to a matter of personal demeanor, Tom. The military might be able to train the jerk to hide his/her natural jerkiness, but it will not knock the jerk out of them.
