This is one of the stupidest things Friedman has ever written.
I have never known a time in my life when America and its president were more hated around the world than today.
Obviously we have a severe memory disorder going. I remember Reagan, and how his confrontation with the Soviet Union was going to alienate the entire planet.
Bush needs to invite to Camp David the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, the heads of both NATO and the United Nations, and the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
I've commented on this elsewhere. Yeah, we should kiss the ass of the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, two of which are, between them, responsible for the deliberate, systemic, state-mandated murder of almost a hundred million of their own citizens over the past century. Not to mention how they ran their prisons.
Oh, yeah. And we need to abase ourselves in front of the Arab nations with a human rights record only marginally higher than that, and apologize for the conditions of our prisons to Syria, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
What is it about America crawling and abasing itself in front of nations that don't come within a parsec of matching our level of human rights that gives the Left such a stiffie? There's something deeply psychological going on here.
And of course, the blind worship of the United Nations is, as always, in evidence:
Third, he needs to say he will be guided by the United Nations in forming the new caretaker government in Baghdad. And fourth, he needs to explain that he is ready to listen to everyone's ideas about how to expand our force in Iraq, and have it work under a new U.N. mandate, so it will have the legitimacy it needs to crush any uprisings against the interim Iraqi government and oversee elections — and then leave when appropriate.
Yeah. Legitimacy from the agency who has been robbing Iraq for years.
