re: . . . apparently . . .

The lust would be over quicker if such could be as readily recognized. However, if it could, there would now be a lot of psychologists currently unemployed.

Your comment, I take it, is directed to the attacks on the current admin?

Anyway, I admittedly find such attacks difficult to follow myself. While the “atrocities” appear to be true, the attacks of many of our posters here seem to be missing the mark. The culprits involved were not current admin officials, but improperly trained Reservists. The target of these attacks should be the training the US Reserve Forces receive. These are weekend warriors, who generally only have time to specialize in one field. We all know that this needs to expand to better employ our Reserve resources -- but to do this will cost the taxpayer.

My time as a Reservist was back in 1979 & 1980, where my training was very much up to date. Of course I had a lot to draw upon from my active years from 1976 through 1979 (people who might be tracking me and wondering at this should know I re-upped in January of 1981 and remained Active through August 1992). The Reservists I met and worked with were top of the line and serious soldiers. They would even come to me, a lowly SP4/E-4, for advice regarding military procedure, and I would be able to direct personal searches to the proper FM or AR. I was a supply clerk in the Reserves, and had ready access to manuals.

Anyway, in the U.S. Militaries, all orders are questionable -- always -- and any order that appears criminal is to come to the attention of the deliverer’s immediate supervisor -- and, if not properly handled at that level, the immediate supervisor’s immediate supervisor -- and so on up the chain of command. This everyday bit of knowledge appears to have changed in the ranks over the decades.

... But whatever you do, Tom, never aim the blame for the lack of military funding at the major cuts during the Clinton Administration, because that would be wrong ...

What gets me, though, is the apparent insistence that the lust is unnatural. I mean, everyone here is so certain that they would never be found doing bad things to people.

But the lust is not an unnatural occurrence.

The lust is a survival thing, a passion, and is completely human. It is rarely observed in animals, but only because animals so rarely go knowingly into a combat zone. It has been observed in large animals fighting for their lives, such as rogue bears, lions, elephants, etc.

(Now -- why did Mouse Hunt suddenly come to mind?)

The lust is completely natural. It is, however, up to each of us humans to control the passions that exist within us to the best of our ability. And it should always be expected that at least a few would generally fail to do so.

Not an offer of excuse, surely. This is merely a personal observation.
