My views here are pretty well understood - I opposed going to war against Iraq because we had not made the case that Iraq was a threat to American interests and because conducting such a war would not serve America's long term interests. On both counts I have been proven right.
Iraq did not possess weapons of mass destruction and had no ties to Al Qaeda as our President claimed. Likewise, the consequences of a bungled occupation has left us with hundreds of American soldiers and thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens dead, billions of American tax dollars wasted, and a failed credibility throughout the entire world. Our international foreign policy is completely impotent and the world is less safe today than it was a year ago. We have lost the moral high ground. On top of that gasoline prices here at home have soared to over $2.00 a gallon and millions of American citizens remain unemployed.
The present administration consists of a bunch of incompetent buffoons, bread by so-called hot-talk right wing radio and internet media that persists in concocting lies to support cheap, lazy and naive solutions to the complex problems we face as a nation. We are witnessing the dumbing down of America and paying a terrible price for our supplication to ignorance. The barrage of anti-government rhetoric has led to a disinvestment in community life with valuable public infrastructure being left to deteriorate. We are becoming a selfish, self-centered people whose only purpose in life is to check out the new releases at the video store.
Our devolution into failure in Iraq is but a symptom of a larger problem with the turn American culture has taken. We have become arrogant, rude, and spiteful. We have taken the power, wealth and prestige of what has been the greatest nation on the face of this earth and squandered it away.
Today the Bush Death Count stands at 773. 773 American soldiers have died in pursuit of weapons of mass destruction that did not exist.
