It's entirely possible that many of these detainees have legitimate complaints. Certainly, some of these complaints from prisoners who would not normally be considered high-risk have been documented, and accompanied by medical reports. I've seen them.

It is also entirely possible that some of them are making it all up.

Just as no one is bothering to divide the prisoners in this controversy between the low-security and high-security divisions, nobody is bothering to distinguish the documented abuse from the anecdotal abuse. The media, and anti-war groups, enthusiastically devour it all (see also here.)

Go to the Christian Peacemaker web site, and read some of the accounts. Some are quite plausible. Some have medical evidence. But a lot falls into "they turned me into a newt" category, similar to the old woman being ridden by a donkey. No way to prove it's a lie, but to keep it in the realm of facts, there needs to be more than verbal evidence in some of these cases.

I understand the desire to paint the entire war effort with this broad brush, but keep it to facts. Hell, in one of your posts you even haul the Patriot Act in on this.
