What version of democracy does our military use outside of our country?

It sure seem different from the one back in the states.

I'm trying to recall if even POWs under the Geneva Convention have limits on how long you can hold them, the requirement that they be "formally charged," or the right to access a lawyer.

I figure it's about six months before some people start demanding that the Marines use rubber bullets.
