About the recent abuse scandals... I want you to read me carefully and not jump to conclusions...

Both the police and army have been plagued by cases of abuse in the past- I want to make it clear That I think the _vast_ majority of both services are damn decent upright people, but its a fact that both attract not just the best of people, but also the worst of people... some people are attracted to that work, not for reasons of altruism, but because they want that power...

I disagreed with the earlier 'straight-jackets' post, but we DO need to screen our representatives of civilization better... most of those that go into these areas are doing so for honest reasons, but there are a few that do so to exercise their sadistic side....

Some of those implicated in the recent Iraq abuse scandal had been implicated in past abuse of prisoners and spouses- they should have been weeded out...the system failed....

There should be better screening of those with power over other humans. These positions DO attract some sadists- we need to try to ensure that they dont slip through.

(just watch, even though I have tried to emphasize the exact opposite, some will try and claim that I am slandering them all with a broad brush)
